Epiphyllum
"Orchid Cacti" or "Epicactus"
Epiphytic (tree-growing) cacti. These plants, with green, strap-like leaves, produce large (up to 30cm or 12 inch) flowers. They are ideally suited to window-sill conditions. They do well indoors during the winter in cooler climes, and absolutely thrive outside when weather is warm enough.
CULTIVATION Fairly bright, filtered light. Must have bright light for blooms. Min. 40F (5deg.C) in winter. Water once a week in summer, less in winter. Rainwater is best. They prefer to be on the dry side. Feed high potash (Tomato fertiliser 2-10-10) Feb to April for blooms, then balanced feed (8-8-8) July to October. November to January no feed

This is a very popular, and well-known species. It has been used in cross pollination with many other genera to produce countless fine hybrids.
